Finger Prostheses

The loss of one or more fingers due to an accident is very common and leads to a decrease in the function of the affected hand. According to the Academy of Hand Surgery, 10% of hand function is lost for each finger amputated.

Using a phalanx prosthesis can improve both the appearance and function of a finger in many cases. It can help with gripping objects more securely, restore the length of the affected finger, and in the case of the thumb, restore the ability to oppose the other four fingers.

Retention

Because they are custom-made, phalangeal and partial hand or foot prostheses are retained by suction of the residual limb and do not require adhesives or other means of retention. They are easy and comfortable to fit and remove.

Materials

The prostheses are made of medical-grade silicone, this material has been tested and is suitable for direct application to the body without producing adverse reactions.

Process

The creation of each prosthesis involves a lot of focus and care. We evaluate each case and work closely with the patient to ensure a satisfactory result.

We take impressions of the affected area, make adaptive adjustments, prepare a model, characterize specific patient skin colours, and provide training on use and care.

Each of these steps is extremely important to capture the details and particularities that will make each prosthesis a unique work of art.

Benefits

The creation of each prosthesis involves many technical laboratory procedures. Below, I will outline the process through which we will collaborate:

Functionality: A phalanx prosthesis enhances the functionality of the affected hand, allowing it to hold objects and, in the case of a thumb prosthesis, restore opposition against the other 4 fingers.

Natural appearance: Thanks to its intricate detailing, and colour mimicry, the prosthesis seamlessly integrates with the affected hand or foot, remaining inconspicuous at first glance.

Continuous use: The prosthesis fits perfectly without causing discomfort so it can be used throughout the day.

Personalised elaboration: The prosthesis is unique for each patient, made with love according to their particular needs and characteristics.

If you need a prosthesis for yourself or a loved one, I have provided answers to frequently asked questions that I commonly receive during consultations.
