Nasal Prosthesis

Surgical resection of the nose (rhinectomy) is often the treatment for skin cancer in that area. Infections or accidents can also cause defects involving the nose. Surgical reconstruction may not be a viable option for some patients due to several factors.

A nasal prosthesis can help restore the natural appearance of the face, improve normal breathing and speech, and protect the nasal cavity tissues.

Materials

I manufacture facial prostheses using medical-grade silicone, this material has been tested and is suitable for direct application to the body without producing adverse reactions.

Retention

Retention with medical-grade adhesive is a common fixation method because it is non-invasive, allows for accurate replication of prosthesis margins, and is easy to apply.

Another highly effective retention method involves using osseointegrated implants with magnets or clips. This process is longer and more expensive as it requires surgery and not all patients are suitable candidates. However, you will be presented with all treatment options during your evaluation appointment, and you can then decide which one best suits your particular case.

The process

The creation of each prosthesis involves many technical laboratory procedures. Below, I will outline the process through which we will collaborate:

We have an evaluation appointment in which I present the best rehabilitation option for your case.

We begin by taking an impression (mould) of your face on which I will model the prosthesis.

In the next appointment, you will be able to see how the prosthesis takes shape, we will share a few hours while I sculpt the prosthesis and try it on your face to make sure it maintains harmony.

Once the shape is defined, we determine the colour palette that resembles your skin. This will allow me to obtain a prosthesis on which we will have a final colouring appointment to give it additional details and mimic the edges of the prosthesis on your face.

Your prosthesis will be ready at your next appointment. We'll ensure you can put it on and take it off with confidence and provide care and cleaning instructions.

If you need a prosthesis for yourself or a loved one, I have provided answers to frequently asked questions that I commonly receive during consultations.
