How does cancer affect my oral health?

Current cancer treatments for any part of the body, including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and bisphosphonates, can lead to significant changes in the oral structures. These changes may include mucositis, infections, xerostomia (dry mouth), cavities, misalignment of dentures, difficulty eating, and, in some cases, the destruction of bone tissue.

Why is it important to go to a specialist in Oncological Dentistry?

The specialist has extensive knowledge of the oral treatment of a cancer patient. In these cases the approach is different as not all conventional treatments can be performed as they are for a person without the disease.

What does the specialist do during my cancer treatment?

BEFORE: Prevention, and early detection of lesions suspicious of malignancy in periodic dental check-ups.

DURING: establishing measures that minimize the discomfort and complications that cancer treatments can bring.

AFTER: working on the rehabilitation and recovery of dental functionality and aesthetics that allow patients to have a better quality of life.

I was diagnosed with cancer, is it too late to see a specialist?

No, it's important to see each other as soon as possible after the diagnosis. There's a lot we can do to prevent oral pain and infection by getting it checked before cancer treatment begins. Even if you have already started receiving care, we can address your oral and dental health needs throughout and after treatment.
